UPCOMING! Muscles

Modular is releasing Muscles' debut album Guns Babes Lemonade in the US on Oct. 23, but it is already out in Australia. They have two Florida dates on their tour in support of the album release. They are playing tomorrow night in Miami @ Circa28 and on Monday, Oct 22 in Orlando @ Back Booth. So you guys should head to the gym and come out to one of these shows where everybody will be comparing muscles. DOP - dopamen feat. Nôze from the Between the Blues EP on Circus Company.

Despite the really odd lyrics this track is totally killer. I don't know anything about DOP except that they're from Paris and they're refreshingly non-derivative of Daft Punk. This track features the ever wacky Nôze, who also appeared on DOP's No Passport EP which was also very nice.

Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler New Video

There's a new video for 'Hustler' by Simian Mobile Disco that's a tad bit different than the first. It's sexy, messy, then disturbing. I think I prefer the first - a game of telephone gone very right - it is strictly sexy. Regardless, it is a monster of a song and probably my favorite this year. Take a look at both and compare:

The Field Remixes

The Field is Axel Willner from Sweden. He is one big reverberating crescendo that will make you go crazy at the right moments. If you have not purchased From Here We Go Sublime or heard it do yourself a favor and do so. That record will be in the top 3 of my favorite records of 2007. The best thing about The Field is that his records work in the club but also function well at home. He has recently remixed 'Tonto' by Battles, which will be released on November 6th in the US and on October 22 for everybody else. It will also include a Four Tet remix. I've also added his remix of 'Hera' by Kompakt labelmate Gui Boratto. The sound of the Gui's track mixes so well with Axel's style. Get lost in his pulsating ambience:

Touane

Touane aka Marco Tonni is Italian-born but currently resides in Berlin. His style is minimal/ambient with beautiful layered textures. Last year he released 'Bassic', which is probably his biggest track and appeared on Tiefschwarz's Fabric 29 mix. Watch this great video of the track 'Eiertanz' that aptly reflects the complexity and the constant gradient of effects that pop in and out of his hand-constructed journey. Touane - Chamber [alternate link] - Released during the summer on Liebe Detail as a split with Ulysse. It plays out more like a spring tune with its slightly happy melody and the buzzing toward the end reminiscent of active bees, which blends with the dropping bass line that is held out for half a measure. Even though it is a slower track is still has a becoming groove.

Touane - The Action Painter [alternate link]- A more uptempo track released on Trenton. It really picks up in the middle of the song becoming more electro than minimal with the elements smoothing out nicely towards the end.

UPCOMING! MSTRKRFT

The beautiful people of Club Firestone and Saturday/Thursday in Orlando have booked MSTRKRFT for this Thursday, October 18. This is their second visit to Firestone, which is good because I missed them the first time around. If you don't know who they are you've been living under a rock because they are one of the most popular electro acts around. And it doesn't look like they have the same fate as their other great but ephemeral project, Death From Above 1979. According to their myspace page the second LP is in progress! Here's a fun/gross video of 'Easy Love' from The Looks:

Shawn Khan's Off the Wall Mix

When I was around 4 all I would listen to was Michael Jackson and I would dance and dance. That same year I went to Pakistan for the first time and had my Aqeeqa, which, in Islam, is a celebration of the birth of a child. It is supposed to be done on the 7th day after birth, but that was my first visit there and you can't really sacrifice a goat in the United States. My uncle sacrificed two goats before the party, which served as a thank you to God for giving my parents such a blessing of a child (haha). So the party began and I was supposed to do a dance to a Michael Jackson song in front of a ton of people (the whole town was there: friends, relatives, and the poor - 1/3 of the meat must be given to charity), but I chickened out because I was shy. The only thing else I remember about that day was that I got so much money! I was even wearing a vest made out of money!

'Heater' reminds me of my first time in Mexico and the life that that country breathes. There's always music in the air, people dancing and having a good time. They know how to enjoy life. That is what I want this mix to express - just being 'Off the Wall', not having any worries and enjoying yourself and just dancing.

UPCOMING! Kavinsky

EDIT: Show is being rescheduled

Crush presents Kavinsky this Monday, October 8th at Back Booth in Orlando. Kavinsky's backstory is interesting: after crashing his Ferrari Testarossa and being declared dead he awoke as a hellbent zombie, but with an unknown motive. This is the only Florida show so you don't want to miss this big staple of the Ed Banger crew. Maybe he'll give us a ride in the Ferrari that magically fixed itself and will turn us into zombies in time for halloween! Watch the video to get a better sense of his backstory for his 1986 EP:

Legends of the Drum(machine): Omar-S

Omar-S is a bonafide badass/house god who gets ignored in his hometown of Detroit but draws enormous crowds over in Europe. I'm not gonna post any MP3s just cause I really respect the guy and he doesn't sell enough records (though it's arguable whether that would hurt or help, but I'm not gonna get into it.)

Here's a link to his site where you can listen to free samples of his tracks. Just play the sample of Day or Just Ask the Lonely over and over again and you'll get that Omar-S feelin.

DJ Gorky's "In DEED" mix

Hailing from the country known for soccer and notoriously sexy people is Bonde Do Rolê's own DJ Gorky. Arguably the backbone of the Brazilian party starter trio, his mixes from the June release "With Lasers" have likely graced your party scene. A couple weeks ago he teamed up with XM radio show "In DEED" and dropped a 37 minute live mix that is sure to get your feet tapping.

The mix blends Bonde Do Rolê's bubbly personality with numerous club favorites and yesteryear hits. Opening up with Fam Lay feat. Pharrell-beeper, Gorky shows his American hip hop influence. Seamlessly though later on in the mix he blends Digitalism's "digitalism in Cairo", Gloria Estefan's "conga" to the Klaxon's "Gravity Rainbow". Other hits abound, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for you, would I?

Unfortunately, Bonde Do Rolê and DJ Gorky will not be making it to the sunshine state any time soon as they have cancelled due to "tour exhaustion and sickness". However, our beloved peninsula has attracted some fantastic DJ sets in past months and the future is looking good as well. Whats not to love about Florida?

LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem has a heap of upcoming releases for you. They released a digital EP titled A Bunch Of Stuff on September 18 that has the Soulwax remix I posted earlier, a Carl Craig remix of 'Sound of Silver' (you can never go wrong with him), Franz Ferdinand covering 'All My Friends', a Gucci Soundsytem of 'Time To Get Away', and 'Us Vs Them' both a Windsurf remix and a live version. LCD Soundsytem's next single will be 'Someone Great' and that'll be out October 22 and will have everthing from the EP I just mentioned minus the cover by Franz Ferdinand. I'm not a huge fan of FF, but they did a good job with their version of 'All My Friends'.

I really like the concept of the Doug Aitken-directed video of 'Someone Great':

This song as you probably already know was part of their epic running anthem '45:33' for Nike. Well, now, it is going to be available on CD and double vinyl and will have the track split up into seperate movements as well as two new songs, 'Freak Out/Starry Eyes' and 'Hippie Priest Bum-Out' and also an amazing Onanistic dub of 'North American Scum'. Whew I need to catch my breath.

The Decemberists - Perfect Crime

You can tell that dance music is the trend when all your favorite indie bands are being remixed and those songs are coming out better than the originals. The Decemberists released The Perfect Crime #2 EP today and it has superb remixes by Junior Boys, Diplo, and a Touch of Class. I never thought a band like the Decemberists would see remixes, but I'm happy that kids want to dance.

Digitalism - Idealistic

Digitalism just put out another single of 'Idealistic' through Kitsune again 2 years later. I guess there have been a few more good remixes after the first release and after Idealism that they had to release it a second time. They also have an excellent new video for it - it is almost as good as their 'Pogo' one.



These remixes seem much better than the older release featuring great remixes by A-Trak, Digitalism themselves, WhoMadeWho, and Hystereo.
